This controversy will continue because of the U.S. policy of expansionism and imperialism under forced WASP assimilation which is a given. West of the Rockies has always been predominately Spanish and Louisiana mainly French. This is due to colonization by these main countries that practice manifest destiny doctrines. Bilingual and multilingual use enhances forms of communication. As for Hawaii, its mainstream society is Polynesian Hawaiian under the Kingdom of Hawaii nation-state. It is natural and correct that the main language is Polynesian Hawaiian and English has become a second language because of its illegal majority coming from English-speaking countries and its forced assimilation process under its unlawful belligerent occupation. Hawaiians of old had a knack for languages and it was common that the were familiar with four or more languages. Since Hawaii is an independent country, its official language is understandably Polynesian Hawaiian which everyone should learn as a first language and English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and German, etc, as a second language for utilitarian purposes in communication.
