This day three years ago, September twenty-first, 2010 something unusual happened I think this might be pivotal, or poignant or whatever the hell people say it is when the turning point in one’s action is stopped, in fact the aggression to pursue my daughter’s organs, a million dollar’s worth of free merchandise is suddenly brought to a stop. Until the Ethic’s Committee, there was only one course of action, prove brain death, According to the Federal Government, she was their property, They could have done anything they wanted to our daughter, ran any test they wanted, she was their patient, but all they did for two days was try to intimidate us by making us feel like stupid people. But that did not work, as we prayed, sang and believed we got stronger, they got confused and weaker, rendering them unable to pursue their goal, the organs. To me the most unusual thing that now stands out in my mind, Is their inability to present their case at the Ethics Committee. They had their chance but blew up. When the meeting was over, which took about thirty minutes, the Head of Nursing, said, We can conclude, that the organs are no longer a issue, they are off the table, a million dollars just like that, off the table in thirty minutes, without much discussion. Then they said, Mr. and Mrs. Gallaher we will offer Supportive Care for your daughter. Finally, they were talking about my daughter, not a donor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was pretty happy, because now my daughter was finally going to get the care and respect from these doctor’s and nurse’s that she had deserved from the beginning, she was going to get Supportive Care. The only problem was, that Supportive Care was not what I thought it was. The definition of Supportive Care is make the patient feel comfortable at the end of their life. I did not know this. Supportive care also means give food and pain medication, my daughter got neither. Today, three years, September twenty-first, we have a break through, no more talk about organs, now we can finally concentrate on Melissa getting her better. She seems to be doing good today, this day three years ago , her ICP is coming down, but her blood pressure is unstable. I thought again, not being a doctor or nurse, that her blood pressure was more stable when she was receiving blood products. I told the nurse that I think my daughter needs more blood, I told her to contact the doctor and ask permission for the blood transfusion. She hesitated, then I demanded to speak to the doctor or someone in authority. Finally a doctor arrived, he argued with me, that this will not help. I begged him for the blood. He said, I will give you the blood if you let us do a nuclear blood flow study on her. I said, What is that? He told me, I ask could they do it here in the room? He said, no, they would have to take her downstairs or some where. I said, No, because I really did not want my daughter moved around a lot because she was severely injured. Then, he said, how about an EEG done in the morning, in this room? I said, okay. Then, he said, Okay. They gave my daughter an additional two pints of blood. I had to beg for blood for my daughter in a hospital in Larimer County, Colorado, In the United States Of America. Blood, that I have discovered upon reading her medical report that she needed from day one. You see Melissa was anemia for six days, she started her menstrual cycle, for six days Melissa’s blood was below a critical low level. This is a problem for a healthy person but this is detrimental for a critical injured person who is fighting for their life. This critical low blood volume will cause your heart to have to work harder in order to circulate the blood throughout the body. Eventually it will lead to a heart attack. This is what happenedto Melissa she died of a heart attack because of low blood volume not brain death. This low blood volume will also prevent you from oxygenating your body and organs efficiently. The blood, the red blood cells is what carries all the oxygen that was being pumped into Melissa by the vent throughout her body. Because there was not enough red blood cells the oxygen was not being carried throughout her body. This is why it isreported on medical report on the last day that she could not oxygenate her body, because her heart had given out from pumping twice as hard for the last six days. Secondly, she had suffered in pain for six days. She was in so much pain, I cannot even imagine how much pain my daughter was. I know that when I stub my toe, I think I am going to die until the pain subsides. My daughter was in so much pain. The doctor’s and nurse’s all knew this, it is on the medical report, her blood was at a critical level for six days, and she was feeling, not tolerating, contracting, withdrawing, eyes were changing in size, went from fixed to hippus, she breathed, and coughed. Please help me to tell the world, I want people to know what has happened. Thank you, Melissa Noel’s Mom Carolyn
