Gold Star Wives Joins the Military Coalition and Urges the U.S. Government to End Shutdown Washington, DC: Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. (GSW) announced today that it will join a coalition of Veterans Services Organization on Tuesday, October 15th at 10:00am at the World War II Memorial to urge Congress and President Barack Obama to end the government shutdown. “This shutdown is creating unnecessary stress for not only the members of Gold Star Wives, but for thousands of veterans across the United States,” said Joe Racalto, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for GSW. “It is imperative that Congress pass a Continuing Resolution and raise the debt ceiling before any further harm is done to our veterans and their families,” Racalto said. Harriet Boyden, President of GSW, added, “We are proud to stand with The Military Coalition and lend our voice to the growing list of organizations and the millions of Americans who so desperately need for Congress to address the vital business of the country. We can no longer afford to short-change our veterans and their families many of whom rely solely on VA benefits. The lack of action by Congress only adds to the stress felt by GSW members.” Gold Star Wives of America is an organization of widows and widowers whose spous es died while on active duty in the military services or as the result of a service connected cause.
