This for the benefit of my young, new-to-recent-homeowner - TopicsExpress

This for the benefit of my young, new-to-recent-homeowner friends.....like Jon Lattier, maybe Dominic Marino, and such..... As a homeowner for 23 years and owner of a couple of rental properties for the last decade, I have to pass along some helpful knowledge. Understand that I grew up in a time when most guys attended shop class, in either Jr. High or High School, or both.... I was a master with a solder gun or solder iron at an early age. I have, in my time, probably soldered a minimum of 200+ copper plumbing joints, successfully. But, I also cannot count the number of times that my efforts have been thwarted by my enemy, WATER/MOISTURE. While recently renovating the last house that my parents occupied, a well-meaning Lowes salesperson suggested push-fit or push-to-connect fittings, in lieu of conventional torch and solder, my long-time forte. I had seen these before, and always held strong doubts as to their actual functionality.....they physics just didnt seem to jive, in my mind, as a permanent fix. However, a chronic water presence on this rental forced my hand. They work. Period. I just repaired a pinholed section of 3/4 copper tubing, using to push-fit fittings and a length of CPVC (YUCK!!! I HATE CPVC!! However, the original, 40+ year-old copper had been slightly bent to pass over a pier, and through a tight hole in the adjacent beam......). With fittings and CPVC in hand, the repair took 5-10 minutes. With no leaks. This Voodoo shit really works!!
