This happened this evening. Amusing. Flying home to The SD. Two legs. First leg was supposed to leave at 6:45 p.m. Connect was 57 minutes at a relatively simple airport. Delayed because of weather in Detroit. New departure at 7:20. Still all good on the connection. We board and are ready to roll at 7:20. Still good on the conenction. Im in 1A and I hear pilot say to co-pilot (there was a crew change)...they left us a few quarts low in the port engine....call maintenance Its a regional jet. Heres the good part. An hour later, Im on the phone and look out the window and a little golf cart looking thingie pulls up out my window. Dude jumps out. He looks like the handyman, Mr. Wheeler, from that episode in the Andy Griffith Show where Aunt Bee gets screwed over by the traveling handyman . Mr. Wheeler. Dude grabs a step ladder.......five steps. Runs over to my side of the plane. Sets up the little step ladder. Runs back to his cart. Grabs three quarts of oil. Runs back to the step ladder and puts them in a line on the fourth step, leaving him the top step to stand on. Runs back to the cart and grabs a spigot for the oil cans. Runs back to ladder. Climbs up, pops the oil cans, pours them into plane engine. Climbs up, hands over the paper and says your oil is good now. I could have done that, saved us the hour and made my connection. This is a night of my life I wont get back. Hello new airport Hyatt Place hotel in a new city instead of my comfy bed and those dumb ass cats. Your bar better be open when I roll in at 11:15 or my head will splode. A dude in a golf cart. We were waiting on a dude in a golf cart who looked like Mr. Wheeler to put three regular quarts of oil in the engine.
