This has been a barely concealed disastrous coporate event, sorry Conference for the Conservative Party. More serious than the two defections and one unimportant selfie, was the refusal of Dan Hannan, Norman Tebbit and the Bow Group to attend. The Conservative Party is in blue funk, the Conservative Party in exile UKIP, is stealing their thunder with their all things to all men, socialist, nationalist, big state, anti immigration message. Their original core message of being anti EU is being lost. Were it not for the hapless Ed what national debt Miliband, the main threat would be from a Unite/Unison funded Labour Government. As it stands unless they are obliterated at the next general election it will be the EU loving Lib Dems that will be Kingmakers under our flawed first past the post electoral system headed by either Clegg or more likely the dishonest plotter Cable. In all of this the ClassicalLiberal/ Libertarian will be unrepresented with its low tax, free trade and small government message. The Constitutional crisis is still with us post Scottish Referendum. Another General Election Election will return a minority government that does not represent the will of the people. Devolution, a written Constitution, and electoral reform are now prorities, not selfies on social media.
