This is Child Passenger Safety Week. A parent or caregiver should use caution when transporting children in used or expired car seats. A used car seat is only safe as long as it has all parts and labels, those parts work appropriately, the manufacturer of the seat is still in business, you know the history of the seat, it has not been recalled, and is not expired. Typically a car seat expires six years from the manufacturing date. It is important to know the history of any car seat because most car seats are designed to withstand only one vehicle crash. Contact the ACH Injury Prevention Center at 501-364-3400 regarding disposal of used and expired seats.
