This is Day 6 of the 7 Days of Thankfulness Challenge. On today - TopicsExpress

This is Day 6 of the 7 Days of Thankfulness Challenge. On today of all days, I am thankful for the many men and women of our nation who voluntarily put on uniforms to protect and to serve. whether they are in the seven (yes, I said SEVEN) uniformed services, or are first responders, our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines; our police, fire and rescue, EMTs, nurses and many others are in many ways a big part of the glue that holds our communities together. Specifically, I am thankful for: 1. My family members who have served with distinction in the U.S. Navy. My Dad, Harvey S. Henning, Jr., LDCR (Ret.), my mother, former LT (JG) Merilyn F. Henning, my brother, former Petty Officer Harvey S. Henning III, and my maternal grandfather, Arthur Louis Gemme, who served in WWII. 2. The Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad, three-time World Champions, who were among the first responders at the Pentagon on 9/11. After five days of non-stop work at that horrific mass grave, they turned around on NO REST, and responded to the worst tornado to hit Laurel, Maryland in 75 years. Had it been a hurricane, it would have been classified as worse than Andrew. These folks were (and are) amazing! 3. The many - too many - who have lost their lives serving in the military in Afghanistan and Iraq in the years since. We owe it them to take care of their families and provide them with the full benefits they earned in protecting us. 4. Finally, I am thankful to the men and women of the Medical Corps of all the armed services, who daily face the heartbreaking task of helping the wounded and their families rebuild their lives. Bravo Zulu!
