This is Katy. Aged 4 1/2. She was born 3 months premature and weighed 1lb7oz. She was diagnosed as profoundly deaf at 18 months, wore bi lateral hearing aids up until she was implanted on her left side Feb 2014. She uses a mixture of makaton and BSL to communicate as she has delayed speech development. Switched on in March this year and doing well.speech is beginning to improve dramatically and no longer needs sign to understand what u are saying just to communicate back or when her ears are out! Just started mainstream P1 in September and has made so many friends and such a big impression on everyone at her school. We couldnt be prouder.
