This is a 1917 Duryea Gem. This unique car is part of the Museums exhibit, and has an interesting history. Having left Reading for good, Charles Duryea decided to make one final attempt at car manufacturing in Philadelphia. His new design was radically different from anything that had been done before. Supposed to be the biggest idea in the automobile industry, the Gem was more of a motorcycle/car hybrid. At $425, the Gem was a simple, economical car that received excellent gas mileage at 65 miles per gallon.
