This is a**************MAYDAY FROM MAYBERRY BY THE SEA***************Will somebody please send me a box if tissues.........and some therapists..........I just saw something awful............two things...........I just saw the end of the movie...The Yearling......the remake of the classic.........Peter Strauss is the old Geechie with the GQ haircut.....living out in the wilderness of the South East......he looks more like an investment banker in overhauls and his southern accent is atrocious.....too many southern clichés....Hollywood never gets it right...Cool Hand Luke hit the mark though...........if you sit with an old Charleston person and listen to them speak....there is a lovely beauty and grace about them....there is a cadence that their accents have when they speak and if you dont get in sync with it you can never be convincing on screen ............dont get me wrong...there are rednecks......but the people who grew up and have lived here for generations have the most beautiful Charleston accent.......a girlfriends mother long before I got married had one of these accents....the sweetest lady who devoted her life teaching handicapped kids......her voice sounded the way the movie starlets spoke in the 1940s.........Betty Davis like....and my pediatrician Dr. Ward....who had an office in the Old Village was a southern doctor......he had a beautiful deep southern voice and could out talk you on any subject...a brilliant man who exuded warmth and class......I got an education everytime I went to see him...I was his oldest kid patient.....he was my doctor when I was 40.....one day it might be a dissertation on Titian....the next......Vermeer......or Bruegal.....he was one smart man...................the landscape in this movie is spot on and I wouldnt be surprised if it was filmed around here......cypress swamps....pine forests and massive oaks trees with palmettos under them.....but these fake southern accents are killing me........and that poor little deer...and that poor kid who had to shoot it.........I had a raccoon once for about a month...it was a runt and got pushed out of the nest........but it was sick and died......a raccon in a house is never a good idea anyway.........I see people with exotic pets and I can understand why they covet them......they are beautiful......but you cant take something out of the wild and expect it to change.....a tame tiger raised in captivity will one day see you move across the room and see you make a movement that triggers something primal within it and the next thing your mauled.........I think I want a lion cub now........so when people see me walk down the street they will see me and my lion.......but on second thought I will stick with this fly buzzing me that I have named Mr. Bojangles...........but like that deer in the yearling..........Mr. Bojangles is wearing out his welcome...he just landed on my ice coffee cup and now I have to put him down............sorry mister Bojangles......Thou you fly through the valley of the shadow of death...fear no evil...SWACK!!!!.....SWACK!!!!!!!.........send tissues and some nerve pills please...help!
