This is a Masked Plover sitting on His/Her eggs yesterday (23/08/2014). They have been there for over 2 weeks now, with the nest (if you can call a hollow in the ground a nest) pushed up against the curb of an at times busy car park. They have endured many people coming and going right where the nest is, and I have even seen them chase off some of the many of the feral cats we have here. Just 10 min before taking this photo, they swapped places, I had often wondered if one sits on the nest continuous, but it was apparent they take turns. Most the time they are both there to defend the nest but one will go off at times to, I presume feed. At a large car manufacturing plant, Altona, Victoria. Taken through Cyclone fence, 10m from my workshop.
