This is a busy weekend for our Car Shop volunteers. In addition to an open Work Weekend taking place in the shop, a team of volunteers are on location at Annandale, Minnesota to salvage parts from three cars of the defunct Minnesota & Western Railroad. The cars in Annandale, overgrown with trees until the first work session by volunteers a few weeks ago, will contribute parts toward future restorations of cars already at Mid-Continent but lacking crucial components. This will save tens of thousands of dollars during the restoration process versus having to cast these parts from scratch. Most notably, the Cazenovia Southern #2 (originally Mineral Point & Northern) which currently sits up on blocks between the museum office building and the freight house will finally have wheels to go under it. The car is significant to Mid-Continent because the Cazenovia Southern was a shortline railroad that operated a mere 20 miles from our museum location between the towns of Cazenovia, Ironton, and La Valle where it interchanged with the Chicago & North Western. Photos from a recent work session in Annandale are seen here. If you wish to help offset the purchase price of these parts, please consider making a donation toward the Cazenovia Southern Car (using the Other box in our printable donation form: midcontinent.org/about/donation_form_rev20140303.pdf)
