This is a direct message to the new CEO of GM. Ive been a loyal GM fan since my first car in the 1980s. As of 2007, Ive been so fed up with GM that I just cannot see myself ever buying a GM vehicle ever again. GM has a history of knowing about defects in their vehicles and choosing to not make any changes on the production line nor acknowledging the problem publicly along with a correction offered until the problem becomes too big to deny. My personal problem included the infamous GM V6 leaking intake gasket and the PassLoc anti-theft system both failing right after the factory warranty expires. I later learned this was a common problem that GM knew about and refused to correct. The anti-theft system problem is so common that there are a series of youtube videos showing owners how to bypass the theft system. As a loyal GM fan, I knew about these problems before buying my 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. I trusted that this being the last year this vehicle holds the Malibu name that GM would have fixed these problems by now. I trusted GM and found my trust was misplaced. All the problems that existed nearly ten years before were still here in my vehicle. I now regret suggesting my parents purchase their brand new 2007 Saturn Aura. Im not the only long time GM fan in the family who has sworn off GM. My sister and brother-in-law were also loyal GM fans. After their Chevy Trail Blazer, they switched to a VW sedan. Brother-in-law still drives a GM vehicle, a 1972 Chevelle, but he wont buy new GM vehicles. To win back formerly loyal customers, we need more than lip service and a $500 towards the cost of buying a new vehicle. 1. Set up a computer network among dealers to input vin numbers and problems reported by customers. 2. if a problem is regularly reported, investigate the problem with the intent of finding a solution. 3. once a solution is found, put the solution in effect on the production line and offer to replace the part at no cost to the customer once within the first 5 to 10 years of ownership. I understand mistakes are made, especially with parts production from outside sources. But stop denying theres a problem and hope it goes away. I would love to trust GM and purchase the Chevrolet Cruze. Because of the actions of GM, my next vehicle purchase will either be a Japanese or Korean brand companys vehicle or a Ford.
