This is a good read. As a salaried physician working in a residency program, I am largely shielded from the effects of this. However, our hospital is under a lot of pressure on the inpatient side because they will start seeing lower reimbursements if their PressGaney scores are too low. The problem with that? PressGaney is percentile-driven. So even if 9 out of 10 patients rate you as excellent, if the median score is 9.5 and your percentile as compared to your peers is low, the federal government will not give you 100% reimbursement. I think they need to take raw scores into account. Because even if everyone is excellent on the raw score, by definition 50% of institutions will be below average based on percentiles. Crazy...
