This is a perfect example of why you pay your artist and why there - TopicsExpress

This is a perfect example of why you pay your artist and why there is a BIG difference between tracers and actual artists. My buddy Chris wanted a memorial portrait of his dad who has passed. The only photo he had that meant a lot to him was his dad holding him in the hospital. The photo was terrible, it had been blown up and pixelated to hell, both of them were cropped awkwardly. There was also a huge white gap between the faces from his dads white hospital gown. But sometimes the worst photos are what mean the most. What was worse is the pic had been framed horribly. Whoever did the job stapled the mats into the frame and glued everything down. This made scanning or tracing any of the reference impossible. I had to photograph a photo in a frame and draw the whole thing from a very bad reference, making most of it up as I went. You can only do that from hrs and hrs of practicing drawing portraits and its why Im always practicing. This is also why artists charge what they do. Most people dont see the hrs spent just to get a line drawing done. Im easily 5 hrs into the process and not done yet. But Ill make it happen, its always an honor when someone asks you to do a memorial piece for them. My dad is gone and I know what thats like.
