This is a photograph that I have coloured, given to me by my friend and RAF Veteran Ronald Tomlin. Ron grew up in the West Midlands and served on Fire Watch duties whilst employed at Hayles Nails in Hurst St Birmingham during the Blitz. He later joined the RAF. He was eventually posted to 10 Squadron and joined a Halifax crew as Bomb Aimer. On his fourth trip, a raid on Nuremburg in August 1943, his aircraft was shot down, forcing the pilot to ditch in the channel during poor weather. Him and his crew were picked up the next morning by German Coastal Forces. Ron spent the remainder of the war as a POW and was involved in the notorious 600 mile forced march from his camp in Poland into Germany. I have filmed an interview with Ron, and hope to share it soon.
