This is a piece from Bernies Daily Bits, earlier today; couldnt disagree more with these sediments. The NFL has a special meaning that college football doesnt have. We need our Rams in St. Louis and Mizzou is no substitute. I was thinking about this the other day when writing my column about the Rams and Stan Kroenke and the future of NFL football in St. Louis. Suppose St. Louis lost the Rams? The answer to that question would be lengthy and cover a lot of territory. But I do know this: Missouri is a member of the SEC, the best and most prestigious in college football. Its not as if the autumn sports season would be barren around here should the Rams leave. I think the terrain is different now; when the football Cardinals left for Arizona in 1988 the MU football program was in sad shape. And except for two good seasons under Larry Smith in the 1990s, Mizzous futility was relentless and numbing. I dont think Missouri football was a replacement (in a manner of speaking) for an NFL team. But its different now. The Tigers are in the SEC. The Tigers have had a sustained run of successful, entertaining seasons. Compared to the late 1980s, the interest level in Mizzou is way up. The programs prestige is way up. The pride in the program is way up. MU football has evolved into a brand. And one more thing: Mizzou isnt going to move to another city. So our trust and loyalty are safe. Thoughts?
