A feature film by writer/director Jesse Keller. THE STORY Thane of East County is a feature-length film; a dark, bloody little thriller set behind the scenes of a small theatre production of Macbeth. A cheating romance turns to murder as the lives of the actors slowly begin to merge with those of the characters in Shakespeares play. THE STYLE Were shooting in glorious black and white, inspired in part by classic Film Noir and in part by modern low-budget indie films from the 80s and 90s like PI, Following, and Stranger Than Paradise. As the action progresses, the film gets darker and more surreal, as reality begins to bend and eventually break apart. RISKS and CHALLENGES The key risk, I suppose, would be that we could make a crappy movie. Were working on a budget that is a fraction - a fraction of a fraction! - of what a Hollywood studio film costs. The way were going to avoid making a crappy movie is by bringing on a team of people who are willing to give up several weeks of their lives for little or no pay because they believe in this script, and in our ability to turn it into something great. Were embracing our limitations and turning them into strengths, just like those great indie films of the 80s and 90s did. We keep the story small and contained - but contained like a pressure cooker.
