This is a rant. If it bothers you that much, then take a deep breath, unfriend me, and keep it moving. That said.... Im often accused of being too demanding when it comes to standards for what a performer, instructor, or choreographer should be. This has never bothered me... I make no apologies for having high standards (Mind you, I have ALWAYS been harder on myself than I am on ANYONE else. Any who have worked with me will testify to that). But then, its also been said that I spend too much time complaining about the mediocrity in the dance community... Even though the standard is clearly in crisis. So I ask you... When IS a good time to mention/discuss these things? How much has been accomplished by the sweep-it-under-the-rug-and-something-is-better-than-nothing mentality?? Has that approach been working for us?? And if you say that it HAS worked, then where are all of the quality performers, instructors, and choreographers that such an approach has yielded?? Where are they??? Wheres your proof?? Im all for positivity... I thrive on it. But realistic optimism and placating people are two totally different things. And ironically enough, the very same people preaching for me to take it easy are the ones who hate on and complain about the poor and uninspiring work that other people are doing, not to mention the fact that dancers are being taught to enable dysfunctional habits in their body mechanics which only hold back their ability to truly dance and become great(er) artists. Lose the delusion and maybe things will get better.
