This is a video of a night shift with the Myanmar Humanitarian Foundation Rescue group in Myawaddy (Myanmar) Its late at night and we get a call to a very sick Thai patient who needs to be repatriated to Thailand (Mae-Sot) hospital immediately. This is the video of what happens... The reason we have to travel by river is the border is closed at night and both sides take it very seriously, especially recently with fighting escalating between the Burmese army and the KIA, so it is impossible to cross it at night. What you also cant see in the video are the soldiers from both sides following the movement of any vessel with rifle scopes. The boat tries to illuminate itself as much as possible to show that they are not smugglers/traffickers. It is a little nerve-racking traveling over a river in the dark knowing you are being scoped out by snipers from both sides...These brave guys do this several times a week.
