This is an hour long conversation between 2 incredible activist-philosopher women, Grace Lee Boggs (born in 1915 and still going! Brilliant thinker! at the age of 95, she wrote a fifth book, The Next American Revolution: Sustainable Activism for the Twenty-First Century. wow!) and Angela Davis (yes, that Angela Davis... but listen to her today without judging by the image from the 1960s). There are bits of incredible wisdom and ideas throughout this discussion. Particularly good are ideas about humans relationship to work (and the idea that job and work are not the same... we need to stop focusing on jobs...listen to understand why); about how capitalism (I would say the neoliberal manner in which we practice it) leads us too deeply into the idea of humans as possessive individuals focused on owning, efficiently producing and relentlessly consuming - and how that has pulled us far away from the ability to grow our souls by building community, and experiencing our soul in the context of community; and how we must re-imagine society as person oriented instead of thing oriented. ... How do we put the neighbor back in the hood?
