This is an important message to all our supporters, explaining what we here at The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust are hoping to be able to do. This winter has been atrocious as you all well know. At Parke, the land we have available to our ponies is better suited to summer conditions. In addition to the bad weather the ponies have worked for a considerable time without a real break and are showing signs of being a little ticked off. At least, I think that is what the handlers said anyway! The ponies are on a hard standing to keep them out of mud and are being fed good rations, we always give them the best care we can. We would like to send them away on holiday for two weeks at Easter, so that they can be on decent grass where they can kick their heels up, or, just relax and do nothing. The ponies are dearly loved and we feel that they give us so much; in return, it is time to take this opportunity to send them to a lovely farm in the Teign Valley. Consequently, they will be away from 4th to the 18th April inclusive. Weekly opening will recommence on Sunday 20th April 2014. Everyone will then be welcome to visit the Centre and see their pony and talk to the volunteers. We hope you understand why we are doing this and will continue to support the Trust when the ponies come home fully refreshed. We realise some may be disappointed that the ponies will not be at the Centre for some of the Easter holidays, but assure you that we only have our ponies best interests at heart.
