This is compelling because its rare you see such honesty with another human being. Its also interesting for me because Ive only seen Schaub at Metamoris where I questioned his motivations. Finally its interesting because to be a really successful fighter, it GENERALLY helps if you arent that smart. A fighter can be articulate, charismatic, and an excellent communicator. But it doesnt mean they are smart (look at Russell Brand in another field). What Rogan says is exactly true! Being smart means you can recognise all the variables in a given situation and make calculations as to all the likely outcomes. This means you fully consider the risks. Considering all the risks in MMA and weighting them appropriately means brain damage is a serious consideration even for the truly gifted. Rogan knows Schaub knows this and Rogan cares for Schaub. Schaub knows Rogan knows this from his reaction. Its extremely compelling viewing. Knowing yourself and realising your role in life is extremely important. Being the brains and not the brawn may not be the worst outcome for Schaub.
