This is for my step father who is in the process of selling the farm we grew up on as he battles cancer like a trooper!! The Pub Lane dream Kick down that for sale sign his eyes are on this land He went and grabbed his book, signed the cheque and then shook hands A vision of a farm with grass in shades of blue But first to dig a dam to turn this turf from old to new The children learnt the ways, many days spent in the sun Clearing trees, driving tractors, getting bogged was half the fun As the weekends would approach head down the paddock to set up camp Lots of yarns, burnt marshmallows and a fire for a lamp Many years would pass on by as this farmer would never stop Even on Christmas day, he would be out there on his crop One morning as he woke and looked deep into the mirror He dwelled upon his life and knew retirement was nearer This land had served him well but it was time to call it quits A developer came knocking to chop this land up into bits As buyers would arrive faces lit up like a beam They were not just buying land but a farmer’s 40 year old dream. This is for my step father who is in the process of selling the farm we grew up on as he battles cancer like a trooper!!
