This is from my friend Bunny. Milford residents, please read! UIs ETT (Effective Tree Trimming) and the Tree Warden of Milford are working together to attempt to lessen the storm related power outages by pruning/trimming/cutting and removing trees from our streets. While the UI has a system for residents to make an appeal for trees on privately owned property, the bottom line is, simply put, any tree within ten feet of the curb is under the jurisdition of the Citys Tree Warden. Unfortunately, the Tree Warden here in Milford is not a licensed Arborist, nor are any of the Public Works gentleman that will do a large portion of the work. Any trees with a RED TAG are slated for trimming or removal. If this is a Milford tag, residents have ten days to notify PW if there is an objection. If this is a UI tag (ETT program begins in June 2014), the first appeal must be made within 15 days. According to the Mayor (last night at the open meeting at City Hall) ANY resident my oppose the removal of city trees. However, the final decision is left to the Citys Tree Warden. Please tell everyone you know .. to look out for the RED CITY tags NOW .. only 10 days to object. And in June, the UI will begin tagging trees. Its an EIGHT YEAR program. AND, their website is SUPPOSED to be posting a map of proposed tree cutting. So there you have it...I will have myself STRAPPED to Dads sugar maple, if need be!!!! And sounds like out beautiful streets, Gulf for one, will be ravaged, like the bluff just was.
