This is from one of our athletes, Bari! Dear Friends and Family, Last week I met Eric. Eric is 28, originally from New Jersey, graduated from college and moved to New York City to purse a career in music. He’s got a hipster look about him, excessive layering, semi-shaved face, but clean nonetheless. We met on the subway as I was heading into the city to meet a friend for dinner. Eric sat next to me; we started chatting and laughing up a storm and before I knew it, we reached 23rd street, which was my cue to go. I jumped up, gave Eric a quick high-five and bolted before the doors closed on me. This situation isn’t so out of the ordinary for me, I talk to strangers regularly (shhhh, don’t tell my students) and make new friends pretty much everywhere I go. Eric was different though. Eric was homeless. Maybe it was his charm, his wit or simply his optimism that inspired me. It didn’t matter. My brain was tripping over itself with ideas on how I could help but I was clueless on where to start. I felt compelled to do something for Eric and the homeless community but passing out PB&J wasnt enough. Then, I discovered Back on My Feet (BoMF) an organization dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by engaging them in running to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Back on My Feet uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living. So, here I am again, asking you to please support me as I run the 2014 NYC Half Marathon with Back on My Feet. Im reaching out to everyone I know to help me raise at least $1,000 for this cause by race day. Just CLICK HERE to check out my fundraiser and click the big donate button. Any amount you can give is appreciated. Please feel free to pass this message onto your friends! See you at the finish line! Bari Still not convinced? Back on My Feet has received incredible media support, including attention from NBC Nightly News, ABC World News, CNN, and The Today Show for its ingenuity in tackling homelessness in America.
