This is from the Grand Central Station Escalator Incident of 1970. The escalator in Grand Central stopped, stranding nearly a dozen people on its metal stairs. The NYFD had to come and rescue the people, one at a time, by hoisting them up on ropes and swinging them over to the ground. This is why all escalators now have signs that say Caution: If this escalator stops moving at any time, USE YOUR DAMN FEET AND WALK THE REST OF THE WAY!!!
