This is how my conversation with John Axtell went yesterday. You have 90, 000 acres but only 332 horses. How can you state that they are over populated? Because there only suppose to be between 119 and 179 horses. Theres not enough food or water for them. Me: 90, 000 acres is not enough? JA Well it is multiple use land. ME: So you are going to shoot up 66 mares with PZP and release them. JC: Yep Me: How many stallions? About the same. That is only 132 horses. Yeah about that Heres the good part.... That is not enough horses for genetic variation. There will be no foals born next year, some horses will die naturally and so the bands grow smaller. Then round up and repeat in 22 months. No more foals again. More deaths and the herd grows smaller still. Say some mares start getting pregnant but by now the genetics are affected by inbreeding? JC Oh we will pull mane hair and check them. ( another round up where not all will be released I m sure) then if theyre inbreeding we will pull horses from another herd ( another round up) and put them with these horses. ( Pine Nut hma by the way) I mean seriously! The will NEVER increase a herd population! Ever! Apparently they already know that the Pine Nut horses are going to slowly disappear. As planned
