This is interesting. Oceans are definitely warming. There is serious ice depletion in the Arctic yet there is increasing ice in the Antarctic. The scientists quoted here quote wind effects cause rippling of the ice making it resistant to melt off. Other factors could be that warm water actually freezes more quickly than cold due to shared electron effects. And, what we dont know how to quantitate is that warmer temperatures cause water to give up its oxygen into the air and increased sunshine promotes photosynthesis by plants which also is a tempering factor. The scariest part to me is that we dont fully understand all this but changes happen at an alarming rate.
