This is it! The campaign for Ambassador of Public Health AMSA Indonesia is coming to an end. Let’s trace back – they say prevention is better than treatment. Unfortunately, childhood leukemia cannot be prevented. Thus, we’re going to #TakeAStepBack from the treatment. When children are diagnosed with leukemia, they might think that their future is already taken away. That’s a wrong perception. Many will also think that no matter at what stage they are diagnosed, leukemia is still leukemia. It’s still going to take away their futures and lives. Again, that’s wrong. When leukemia is treated at earlier stages, the likelihood of better prognosis increases – offering hope, offering a chance to have a future and achieve dreams. First, we need to assure the community of the importance of early detection of childhood leukemia. Assure them that taking a step back will make a difference. Because, how can a community work together towards one goal if they do not believe that the goal will bring significant changes and hopes? The fact that early detection of childhood leukemia can improve prognosis is precious information. When you got something precious, you don’t keep it to yourself, you share it. Once the community as well as individuals already have that spark of hope that early detection of childhood leukemia does make a difference, we should start sharing information The main symptoms of childhood leukemia include lethargy, fever, easy bleeding, swelling of abdomen and lymph nodes. Individuals observing children presenting these symptoms should seek medical assistance. It’s better to be too cautious than to neglect. What now? What if the early suspicion leads to positive results of leukemia? Then they should immediately seek for medical treatment. Hopefully, through the early referral to medical personnel, the cancer is still very treatable. Remember, you never know what this world might bring. Through your desire to help, you might be helping the life of a child who will be the next president or the life of a future doctor, a future researcher, you name it. Whatever it is, you are helping a child keep his/her future. Understand that you life in a world where we are born to help each other. Take a step back, make a difference, be the change you want to see. With these baby steps, one day we will see a colossal change. One day you’ll look back and say, I am glad I Took A Step Back Good night everyone. Remember to be thankful that you are healthy, and share that blessing by taking a step back ☺ #TakeAStepBack
