This is my column from todays paper: The month of November is known for several things: No Shave November, my son celebrates this year-around. Veteran’s Day, we all should celebrate this. Black Friday, my family and my co-workers celebrate this each year. Of course, Thanksgiving, we all eat too much during this one. But the one I do celebrate each year, I didn’t say I don’t honor the rest, is the Facebook celebration of “What I’m Thankful For, I always tried to do this and I always enjoy reading what everyone else is Thankful for. Twenty-eight days of Thankfulness is a lot. Sometimes you get to repeating, yourself, but those are just the things you are most thankful for. My top ten Thankful list things are probably not that much different than anyone else’s, because most are thankful for family, friends, jobs and a roof over their head, but I’m going to share mine anyway. 1. My parents, because face it, I wouldn’t be here without them. I definitely wouldn’t be the strong willed, outspoken, relatively friendly person I am. I don’t ever remember my parents telling me I couldn’t do something, well within reason anyway, and they always encouraged me at what I was doing. 2. My husband, he is strong and loving all at the same time. He lets me think I get my own way all the time, and for that I truly love him. We fight, and fret, but in the end we remain a united force. 3. My children. They are each a completely different individual person. Without them, I would probably have more money, a better figure and less gray hair, but I would also be less versed in facebook, instagram, the wide variety of music I get to enjoy (or pretend to enjoy) the laughs’ they share, the heartache I have seen them overcome and the genuine goodness of each of them. 4. My sisters. We survived with three girls in one house with only one bathroom, probably enough said about that. We fought, we laughed, we cried, but in the end we always remained sisters, and I would dare anyone to come between us. 5. My nieces and nephew. I love those kids, I tease them, and they seem to enjoy it. I’m pretty sure I will always be known as their ‘crazy’ Aunt Kendra, but that is fine with me. I also hope they remember that for them I will keep bail money handy. 6. My brothers-in-law, yeah I’m even thankful for them, they were the reason I have such great nieces and nephew, so by fault they made the list. 7. My co-workers. How could I NOT include them, they are two of the most special ladies I have ever had the privilege to know. They are both smart, witty and hard working. They get my sense of humor and they don’t judge me. We share a very special bond in that office and we are the reason we each go to work everyday, and they know what “No man left behind” means. 8. My home. I am thankful for my home, maybe not always my house, but your home is where your heart is. My home is my parent’s ranch and the hills that surround us. I love living where I live and wouldn’t trade it for the whole world. To me this is the most beautiful part of the country and I hope to always be able to call this ‘home’. 9. My vehicles, because I don’t like to walk. 10. My pets, I cuss them, but when Tony is gone for an extended period of time and Kadee is out with friends, I have them to keep me company. Yes, I do talk to them, but as of yet they haven’t answered me back, so no need to worry. When I start writing columns about my conversation with the cat, then you may need to worry. Well I could go on, because there are so many other minor things to be thankful for, but these things are what my life revolves around and what I gets me up each morning and puts a smile on my face after a long day. I hope that you enjoy the month of November and please take time to stop and be ‘Thankful’!
