This is my morning shower wisdom and drive to work wisdom. Early - TopicsExpress

This is my morning shower wisdom and drive to work wisdom. Early this morning I learned that a second healthcare worker had contracted Ebola. Now while everyone is blasting these people wondering what they did wrong think to yourself what did they do right. These are brave and caring individuals who were caring for this man. I want to say that donning and doffing PPE the right way every-time is life saving. Do we train staff as hospitals well yes but its probably the first few days of training and while we do place and have patients in isolation daily and the PPE sequence is still very important its not something we review and drill daily. This has hit me on a deep personal level because I feel a responsibility to everyone in my hospital to make sure they number 1 have the tools they need to take care of our patients safely and take care of themselves but most importantly that they Are 100% fully trained on those items and feel confident that they know the right way every time not just for Ebola but for flu and any other organism they can contract and spread. Now having said that once you are fully trained and you know what to do and how to do it. If you as a HCW dont use the PPE and isolation protocols and hand washing thats provided then thats being negligent one your part to you, your patients, coworkers and family. I cant imagine having it on my conscious that I didnt fully do all I could to protect my nurses and all workers in my facility and Im sure the workers that now have Ebola are racking there brain trying to figure out when and how. If you are working in HC please just do the right thing every time everyday even if its uncomfortable and takes more time the life you save could be your own. If you dont have the tools you need then speak up and speak out!!!
