This is not my normal sort of posting, but I have been struck in the last few days by several things I have seen passed around (mainly to do with Iraq/ Syria) where people have seen apparent horror stories and shared them. On closer analysis these shock horror stories are fake, and presumably created by people who have an agenda to demonise another group by spreading stories which sound barbaric but ARE NOT TRUE! There are terrible things happening in the world right now and I dont want to sugar coat them, but tolerance is not helped if we mindlessly help in the circulation of untruths. If you see a story, especially one that horrifies you and meets your personal political /religious beliefs, please take reasonable steps to check it out with reliable news sources before blindly assisting in the spreading of confusion and hate. I can write several sources have confirmed that Gary ate a pterodactyl for breakfast this morning but this does not make it true (it was a brontosaurus). Friends , please engage brains before being an unwitting tool in the spreading of lies and intolerance. I wonder how many likes this will get.......
