This is one of those crossroads moments, guys. When an entire community, millions, mamas and daddies and kids and ordinary folks are all crying out, saying THIS IS WHAT IT IS LIKE FOR US, WHAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE...THIS IS HOW WE HAVE HAD TO PARENT OUR SONS, THIS IS WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO US... Anyone who is not black should listen. We just should. It is the same reason I listen closely to the quiet voices exposing fraud and coercion in adoption. And those saying they have been raped. And those who finally give voice to abuse. The minority voices are usually telling the truth the majority doesnt want to hear or admit. We are a part of an important generation, one who might be ready to start listening humbly and maybe even move beyond to something more like racial healing and justice. Generations before us have done this hard and brave work in other arenas, and now it is our chance. What important work lies in front of us. I promise to come with some ideas ASAP on how to become peacemakers. Not peacekeepers...peacemakers. It will not be easy but it will be right.
