This is our beautiful miracle, Taylor. When I was twenty weeks - TopicsExpress

This is our beautiful miracle, Taylor. When I was twenty weeks pregnant with her I was told she would be born with a condition known as Gastroschisis. I had no idea what it was, I had never heard of such a thing before. I was called on the phone by my doctor and he told me, your child will be born with a condition known as Gastroschisis. You will transfer care to a specialist in Huntington and you will have a csection. Heres how you spell it, G-A-S-T-R-O-S-C-H-I-S-I-S, you can Google it. That was it. My world was forever changed with that one call. I delivered her at 35 weeks after several hospital stays. She weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces and was 17 1/2 inches long. Taylor went into surgery when she was 5 hours old. The doctors were able to put everything back in with the one surgery. She was born with her small and large intestine, stomach and appendix on the outside. She spent 23 days in the NICU. She is now almost 7 years old, a relatively healthy little girl who is in the 1st grade and plays soccer. She is our miracle. When I discovered our daughter would be born with Gastroschisis, they was no support groups or anything. A few years ago I stumbled across Averys Angels Gastroschisis Foundation. I also discovered there is now an official awareness day. Its amazing how far Gastroschisis has come and that there is support there that wasnt for me or people before me. My challenge to you is, go check out our website, check out the statistics, the facts, our team. I also challenge you to a belly button challenge. If you accept, please post a picture of you showing you have guts then donate $5, if you do not accept, donate $20. (I will post the links below, it is tax deductible). Dont forget to tag at least three people in your post and please, share our story. Get the word out there! We challenge Nikki Baker Davis, Jax, Rease, Melissa Seabolt and Alicia Williams Thank you all
