This is pathbreaking work by Piyush Manush . I could not attend his presentation on restoration of waterbodies in Chennai. But Aparnas post sums it up. Piyushs work is unlike any other lake clean-up work that I know of. It is not based on charity and in making children clean up other peoples shit. It does not require one to cozy up to municipality officers and corporate honchos to get ones city cleaned up. The Salem model is intensely political in that it endorses voluntary effort and self-help, even while pointing an unwavering finger at the culprits -- governmental or corporate -- that are responsible for the pathetic state of our waterbodies. Go Piyush! Go Salem!
