This is possibly one of the greatest X Factor performances of all time: Simon Cowell praises rock god Stevi Ritchie for standout Bohemian Rhapsody cover Saturday nights X Factor took a shocking twist when comedian Lee Nelson gatecrashed Stereo Kickss performance. But the show also featured the contestants usual battle to convince audiences that they deserve to stay on the singing contest. The week’s theme, Queen vs Michael Jackson, certainly raised the stakes as the contestants performed hits from two of the most iconic music acts in history. Stevi Ritchie took the theme to heart with his stand-out performance of Queens iconic track, Bohemian Rhapsody After being introduced by his mentor, Simon Cowell, as the nations rock god, the singer took the stage. Stevi clearly enjoyed the task as he donned a large black leather robe for the dramatic performance before stripping off to a Freddie Mercury inspired look. Louis Walsh praised the performance as he said: You just became a rock god. You became a Freddie Mercury impersonator. Mel B was less taken with the performance as she said: It was good and bad. You are a lovely guy and you give it your all. But I felt like I had taken a weird acid trip that I wanted to get off. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini added: I think I took a bit of whatever Melanie took. You really took the theme and ran and ran and ran and ran with it. Simon was happy with his act as he said: This is the performance you are going to be remembered for. This is possibly one of the greatest x factor performances of all time. This could change your life. The show kicked off with Paul Akister was the first act to hit the stage performing Queen’s hit track, Don’t Stop Me Now. He gave a confident vocal performance as he moved around the stage smiling and engaging with the audience. His mentor was clearly impressed as she stood up to applaud when he finished. Louis Walsh praised the singer as he said: ‘You were opening up the show with a big song and you are an amazing performer. If I would mark you out of ten, I would give you ten. While Cheryl said: ‘You are such a consistent singer. You have never had a bad performance vocally.’ Jay James was next to perform as he performed another Queen hit, The Show Must Go On, after suffering form vocal problems in the week. He managed to give a touching performance on the night though his vocal were shaky in parts. Louis shared praise as he said: ‘That was a brilliant song choice. I know you’ve had a tough week but you picked yourself up. I loved the staging. Consistent and amazing.’ Mel B was less impressed as she said: ‘I wasn’t feeling it because I could see that you were uncomfortable and it came across in that performance. I want a show, I want to see the Jay that I know that I love. I could feel your disappoint at the end of the performance.’ Lauren Platt gave a stripped back performance of Michael Jackson’s hit, I’ll Be There, as she dazzled in a metallic sequin dress. Louis said: ‘All I know it you look like a pop star and you sing like a pop star. You made the song your own’. As Mel B added: ‘You performed that song like you’ve been performing forever.’ Simon told the young hopeful: ‘I thought the track was good and I thought the last 20 seconds was fantastic. I think you are better than you know.’ Cheryl concluded: ‘You had tonsillitis and that performances showed how much of a professional you are. I grow more and more fond of you each week.’ Only The Young sang Blame It On The Boogie by The Jackson Five in a disco themed stage. Parisa started the group off the right track as they powered through the classic 70s track. Mel B gushed: ‘That was a fun lively performance. Your whole performance as a group was spot on. I’m glad you started the song Parisa. While Cheryl said: ‘As a group you have to have chemistry. You have that naturally. I think you are finding your niche.’ Simon added: ‘Since last week, you are back in the competition. There is a gap in the market for a group like you. It is good that you are finally making your own decision. I don’t think the competition will be the same about you.’ Louis pleaded for audiences to vote as he said: ‘We need this band in the competition. They are talented, they have great chemistry and I want to see them on the X Factor tour.’ Ben Haenow let his voice take centre stage as he sang Michael Jackson’s emotional hit, Man In Mirror. Louis was impressed as he said: ‘Wow wow, you took the most iconic song and sang it acappella. That is the sign of a true singer. Mel B was not so taken as she said: ‘Your best performance was last week. This week your vocals were too exposed. If I was Simon, I would be worried.’ Simon concluded: ‘I believe this is the moment where we are seeing a star being born.’ Fleur East decided to show off her vocals rather than dance moves as she performed a stripped back version of Michael Jackson’s hit, Will You Be There. Louis praised the talented singer as he said: ‘You’ve been working all your life to get to this point. You are ready made for a career in music. You have to stay in this competition.’ Mel B joked: 2 snaps with a clip or what. You owned it and you commanded the stage. You have to stay, we need you. Simon added: You continue to surprise me. You just get better and better. The song was really tough but what you’ve done tonight is prove that you’re not just a performer but also a great singer. Andrea Faustini gave another powerful performance as he performed his rendition of Queen’s Somebody To Love. Louis gushed: I didn’t think you could get any better. My favourite performance of the night. While Mel B was once again moved to tears.
