This is probably going to be a tl;dr for most of you. I was just looking at some alternate recipes for dry shampoo, and reading the comments on one page- I was astounded again at how people are judgmental and overly personal with absolute strangers. Person A made the comment that OBVIOUSLY you should shampoo your hair daily. Person B pointed out Well, no. Not so much. Its incredibly hard on your hair, a lot of shampoos arent great for the environment, and long hair has specific needs and one of them is NOT being stripped by detergent on a daily basis. Its a lot of work to wash and air dry long hair. Person A replied that if the hair was so much work , she should cut it off. So many things wrong with that. The fact that one person felt that her way was clearly the right way and that anything else was wrong- and decided to let people know that was the case, and refused to consider the idea that long hair is a choice people make. Take back those hours of your life! Really? Because I dont wash my hair daily because of the time involved and the damage it does, you assume my hair is taking hours of my time? Compared to how much time some people with short hair spend shampooing and styling? Not to mention that its just not Person As business what Person B does with their hair. Why should anyone have to defend their HAIR? We arent past that yet? Really? Body hair, natural hair, long hair, short hair, shaved heads, dreads - if its not on your head or your body- GET OVER IT! The way a persons hair grows naturally, or the way a person chooses to express themselves through their hair and hair care routines is not anyones business. My hair has a story to tell. For my entire childhood I was shuttled back and forth between dance classes, art classes and charm school. There was so much going on that shorter hair was one of the ways I cut time to get from one thing to another. When I was in my early to mid 20s, I was working about 60 hours a week to support more people than I should have been, and there was still a time crunch. My waist length hair tells me that my time is my own. My bangs which are just past my chin now? A man who is like a brother to me asked me to let them grow. Then he disappeared. I havent cut them since then, and its my reminder that I hope to show him how long theyve gotten. And I wont wash my hair daily, but will keep it neat and healthy, and sometimes I use dry shampoo to mildly remove some of the oil after showering with a shower cap on.
