Meet, Greet, and Eat- 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM - A light dinner of organic homemade soup and bread provided by Fresh Cafe from Bay City - $5.00 donation. Panel and Dialogue Town Hall Meeting 6:30 to 9 PM. Please join us for an informative town hall meeting with a panel of six expert speakers on topics such as the Oregon Forest Practices Act, human health impacts of pesticides, and economics and trends in forestry. Included on the panel will be private consultants, as well as, representatives from Oregon Department of Forestry and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. This town hall meeting is a collaboration with Rockaway Citizens for Watershed Protection, Beyond Toxics, North Coast Basin Coalition, Tillamook County Citizens for Human Dignity, and local communities from Netarts to Arch Cape. Local communities will present a short report on the status of air and water quality in their areas. In the past year, there have been two legislative hearings on the topic of forestry herbicide sprays and rural community health. As a follow-up, state legislators will be attending this September 6 town hall meeting, including Senator Michael Dembrow, chair of Environment and Natural Resources Committee and Representative Ann Lininger, a member of the House Energy and Environment Committee. They hope to bring information from this town hall back to other interested legislators. Mary McGinnis, a Tillamook teacher, will moderate, with her students providing logistical assistance. Please note that community members discussion comments will be submitted in the form of written questions. The purpose of this town hall meeting is to provide a public education opportunity in a safe setting for input on these issues affecting many rural Oregon communities.
