This is the Second time today Ive had to have this conversation, first with a close friend thats a model, and the second with a separate photographer and client but the same issue: Using images in your portfolio the model doesnt want used... In all honesty youre being a petulant child, and unprofessional... you are worried about yourself and I promise whatever gain you think you are getting by having the images in your portfolio it is a thousand times undone by the negative effect of an unhappy client that feels betrayed and rightfully so will warn others away from you. Your job is to make the client happy, even if the only thing they are paying with is their time. If they dont like the image YOU FAILED THEM. You dont deserve to use the images regardless of a signed release, you dont deserve to get paid, you didnt deliver a product they want to purchase. What we do as photographers is sacred, we capture who they are, and how they feel, we show them their beauty, their intrigue, their sensuality, their desirability, we immortalize their most gorgeous, intimate selves, and cherished moments and memories... we preserve all that they are, and the things their lives are made up of... that should ALWAYS be more important to you than the dollars in their pocket, or your own business gain... and the irony is that when that IS your priority your business soars as a result, because you gain the reputation for integrity, for trustworthiness. Without that, your just another guy with a camera taking photos of pretty girls. If thats your path, then ignore my words and keep walking down it... if youre a professional than handle it like one. Photography is a career of selfless service, not self serving.
