This is the ad I mentioned to some friends this evening. Its an ad for an English supermarket chain, depicting the Christmas Truce of 1914 -- 100 years ago this year. World War I was only five months old when this happened. After an initial period of fast movement and sweeping battles, the combatants had settled into trench lines which would remain essentially stationary for the next four years. In those five months, the British Expeditionary Force which landed in France in August had suffered 90% of their original complement killed, wounded, captured, or missing. Eventually, there would be 70,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers listed as missing in The Great War. The remains of those missing are still being found in France today, along with their German counterparts. At least there was ONE day... Bless em all. https://youtube/watch?v=NWF2JBb1bvM
