Bible says, It is he who sits above the CIRCLE of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; (Isaiah 40:22 ESV) In hebrew, the same word can be used for sphere as well. But either way, circle is something that has the distance from the circumference to the mid portion as same throughout. But science says earth isnt a perfect sphere but bumpy spheroid which discredits the Bible as much as when science earlier said that earth was flat. This came up when I was trying to understand why does a plane that flies to America from India has to go near to the arctic circle instead of going parallel to the equator. It seems at the equator the distance is more compared to taking an inverted parabola route over the arctic or near to it. But I feel the reason is something else like the air traffic controls of nations in between might not allow it for security reasons. But I dont have proof. Can I get some help here? Ritu sis, can you shed some light?
