This is the hardest one of all. In case you hadn’t heard, I’m out spreading the word—Paul Revere is coming!! Paul Revere is coming!! Coming to join all the playas in Rock N Roll Heaven. What can I say about Paul Revere? Revolutionary. Look out. Paved the way. Revered by most! We met at a big battle; Battle of the bands. He almost ran over me. I heard him before I saw him. He was hysterical, screaming “The British are coming!! The British are coming!! Contrary to legend, he wasn’t spreading it on horseback, but a greased pig named ‘Lightning’. When it got away from him, he asked me for a piggyback ride. And the rest is history. Paul warned me about a British Invasion. I thought he was loopy. Two days later I caught the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, followed closely by the Dave Clark Five, the Stones, Who?... Before I knew it the British Invasion had conquered America. I hid in the basement. Paul wasn’t one to say “I told you so.” But he did. Ironic; Paul Revere wasn’t one of those wacky Brits; he was one of us, with a decent dental plan, but he turned out to be a Red coat, not to be confused with a turn-coat. Paul wasn’t a follower; he marched to his own drummer, found his own keyboard, & some ‘playas’. The way they would raid & pillage the town... groupies, I suggested we call em “The Raiders”; Paul liked ‘Paul Revere and The Raiders.’ Al Davis preferred ‘Al Davis and The Raiders’. I preferred the company of the Raiderettes. Paul Revere was a major influence on me. He showed me all I would ever know about “Kicks.” I was with him at the end. He had dementia & kept screaming “The British are coming!! The British are coming!” We were in London at the time. He was kicked in the head by a passing horse & died in my arms. His last word was “kicks.”
