This is the latest from Civic Engagement; We have been watching brief in an FGM case in Kehancha -Kuria since last year and we are happy to report that judgment was delivered yesterday and the lady who performed the circumcision has been sentenced to 7 years. This is the first time a circumciser from Kuria is charged and sentenced. The court considered the accused persons mitigation but noted that F.G.M was rampant in its jurisdiction and that it left long term effects to its victims and in order to deter others from this practice the accused person was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment without the option of a fine.
