This is the reason why the separation of Church state principal isn’t being applied correctly today. Many of the states used to have written in their laws that a person must believe in God to hold public office. The reason was because people didn’t have much confidence in the moral integrity of mankind. The framers of the Constitution didn’t have much confidence in the moral integrity of mankind either. This is why the had the Separation of the Powers of Government as well. Remember the principal “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Since we have had the new and improved interpretation of the Separation of Church and State ( as interpreted by the ACLU), we have had more violation of the Separation of Powers of Government and of the Bill of Rights guaranteeing religious freedom. In addition, we have had corruption on a major scale in government. Now, we want to endorse the increase of the number of people who don’t believe in God holding office. Let me ask you this? If a man has no fear of God, what is to stop him from reneging on his promises to us? I strive to do what is right because I want be right, but I also fear the consequences of my actions before a Holy and Just God. JMTZ.
