This is the saddest scene from Little Busters! Refrain. In Little Busters!, Kyoske returns to the school for his last year and while hes hanging out with the rest of his friends, as the leader, decides to form a baseball team as the last big thing they can do together, and puts Riki in charge of assembling the team. The team consists of said group of friends whove been together since childhood, as well as a bunch of girls who all have huge problems that Kyoske pushes Riki to help them solve. Kyoske continues to sit on the sidelines and let Riki do stuff on his own, saying that when Kyoske graduates, hes gonna leave Riki in charge of the group. All the while, Kyoskes little sister, Rin, who is obsessed with the cats that hang around her, starts getting notes attached to the cats, giving her tasks to perform. These tasks include specific situations that just happen to occur shortly after, as if the one sending the messages to her is either able to predict the future or is in control of the events happening. These events force Rin, who is extremely shy and often hides behind Riki when a new person comes up to them, to leave her comfort zone and act more on her own. At the end, the group has their first big baseball game, and though they lost, they have lots of fun, and Riki and Rin end up together, which is what Kyosuke wanted for his little sister too. In Refrain, the girls who Riki rounded up and helped out in their own personal lives, start to disappear mysteriously. Kyoske even becomes more scarce and distant, acting more cold and locking himself up in his room. Hes doing this on purpose to break up their group, known as the little busters. After the new girls disappear, even Rikis old friends, which consist of two guys who also act as rivals with each other, treat him like a complete stranger and act like theyre not his friends. Only he and Rin seem to not know whats going on. Eventually one of the tasks Rin had to perform got her noticed by some guests who were visiting the school, who were given the tour by Rin. They wanted her to transfer to a new school for a while, to bring up the morale of the students after said school had had an accident during a field trip, resulting in many of the students dying. Rin doesnt want to go and be all alone, but Riki insists that she does it so that she can experience more personal growth, though it tears them apart. Through many texts from Rin, Riki sees how shes falling apart at this new school. Each text a plea for help, more desperate than the last. Riki decides that its too much and decides he wants her to come back, but upon talking with Kyosuke about it, he finds out that Kyosuke wanted this all along. Somehow, he was the one who was behind all the tasks that were given to Rin. He somehow planned out every event that would happen, somehow being in control of everyones actions. Riki finally manages to get Rin back for one weekend, and sees her looking empty and broken. After some thought, he decides to run away with her, but the two are eventually caught and brought back. Riki is finally able to get through to one of his other friends, and gets him to acknowledge Riki as the new leader of the formerly dissolved little busters. He tells Riki that Kyosuke is up to something, and isnt like his old self. They resolve to reunite the group, but Kyosuke tries to stop them. They challenge Kyosuke to a game of baseball, to see who could make the first homerun, in reference to how Kyosuke would hold contests to solve the disputes between the two rivaled friends. The friend of Riki and Kyosuke, who challenges Kyusuke to said contest, is about to hit the homerun when someone happens to appear in the background to cause him to freeze. Knowing that Kyosuke was behind the dirty trick, he attacks Kyosuke furiously. Eventually, Riki manages to pull Kyosuke out of his slump while held up in his room, and the group originally consisting of the 5 friends decide to play baseball for old times sake. Theyre words are cryptic during this game, though, and as the game progresses, the two guys start to say even more cryptic and heartfelt goodbyes to Riki and Rin, and one by one they just vanish, until its just Kyosuke left with Riki and Rin. Kyosuke then tells Riki the truth. The truth that it wasnt the other school that had the field trip accident. It was theirs, and they were all on it. Everyone who had been in the series until then. Kyosuke said he had somehow created a mental world for all of them to live in, repeating the same semester, for the purpose of strengthening Riki and Rin, and getting them together as a couple, because theyre the only ones who are going to survive the accident once they wake up from this dream world, and he wanted to make sure they were stronger and more capable and together to survive the hell they would be in once they woke up. As they play, the world theyre inside of starts to crumble as Kyosukes life slips away, just as the others who disappeared before him, and so begins this scene that made me cry so hard... https://youtube/watch?v=TsuQu38n1qY
