This is the second year in a row that polls have ranked Ibaraki Prefecture (where I live) as the last place people want to visit. We are literally the least charming and least popular part of Japan...at least in the mind of the Japanese. I have to wonder how much of that is because of less than favorable historical portrayals, how much is due to negative stereotyping of Ibarakiites, and how much is due to the fact that most of the prefecture is either flat farmland or industrial development. Still...Kashima, Itako, Mito, and Tsukuba (among other places) are all well worth a visit.
