This is very important. I know that some people like to say that they are much less likely to trust the government than private business. But the problem is that the invisible hand of the market is actually a far more insidious tool. The power of the corporate driven market, although in some ways more spread out, is in other ways far more consolidated (and is, in fact, becoming more so). Very few persons are actually in control of who reaps almost all of the profits. This means that most workers are largely powerless against the powers that control their checks. Most importantly, the power that voters yield is far more pervasive than the power that workers do. Of course, socialism as a total economic scheme has its drawbacks, but the middle ground of the debate of how we ought to organize our economy for the best of everyone rich or poor is actually far closer to what Democrats are arguing for than anything the right wing is currently proposing (especially as we peer into the future).
