This is what my grandson, Joshua Hester wrote concerning the triathlon he will be praticipating in next month. Please, if anyone can, donate to this wonderful charity of Make-a-Wish. I promise you Joshua will be giving it everything he possible can. This is from his heart. 4 hours ago near Lexington, SC. Very proud of my son, Joshua: My name is Joshua Hester and I am a collegiate triathlete for the University of South Carolina. I am studying biology in hopes to become a Genetic Counselor and help families and people affected by genetic disorders. I am still sort of new to triathlons, only being in the sport for a year. I’ve suffered from bike crashes and injuries but I put in enough work to go to the Collegiate National Championship and helped USC place 22nd out of 103 collegiate male teams. Lately I have gotten the itch to raise the bar on my triathlon career and work up to becoming an Ironman. A 70.3 Half Ironman is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run. I looked through Half Ironman events to do this summer all across America, and the 70.3 Ironman in Gilford, New Hampshire (taking place on August 19th) caught my attention. It caught my attention because this event has teamed up with Make a Wish Foundation and athletes competing in this event can help families and children with severe life threatening diseases fulfill their biggest wish in their life by raising money for them. The average wish costs $10,000, but who can put a price on the joy and happiness a child who has been fighting for his or her life will experience by getting the wish they want. I am putting in a lot of miles, I am training hard to try and reach my goal, but my talent and hard work is nothing compared to children who have been competing in the hardest race of them all: life. There is a lot of money to be raised and it is hard to find extra cash to donate in these times, but if 100 people gave 25 dollars then that would fulfill 25% of the average cost needed to fulfill a child’s wish! I ask you as a member of the Lexington community, as a student, and as an athlete to help me make a difference in a child’s life.
